Site Waste Management Plans (SWMPs)

The Minister for Environment and sustainable Development in Wales, John Griffiths AM, launced the Site Waste Management Plan (SWMP) consultation on the 31st January 2013.  The consultation contains proposals to make Site Waste Management Plans a legal requirement for construction and demolition projects, to address a number of waste management issues facing the C&D sector in Wales.  The Welsh Government is seeking views on the consultation proposals on implmenting SWMPs through regulations including the scope, content and enforcement of SWMPs.

The consultation proposes how the SWMP regulations will be implemented in relation to works involving construction or demolition (C&D) in Wales.  Comments are invited on a range of issues including the scope, content and enforcement of SWMPs.

The consultation period is over 12 weeks commencing 31st January 2013 and closes 25th April 2013.  Consultation documents can be accessed via the Welsh Government website

Members are encouraged to submit their comments on the proposals, as the implications for small business in Wales are significant.  Dawn Davies, of Anthony A Davies Group in Abergavenny, has submitted this response.
